Horace King Park is a Corps of Engineers campground on the Chattahoochee River in Georgia, about a mile from the town of Abbottsford. It sits along the reservoir and offers access to the upper rivers and creeks beyond it, making it a convenient base for time on the water or on land close to the river. The park has a boat launch, picnic sites and a reservable shelter area for groups. The shelters rent for $100 a day. The site is unstaffed, and cancellations must be made 14 days before the reservation date to qualify for a refund. Refunds are not issued for weather-related issues. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in La Grange run to highs of about 76°F in April and October, with lows around 49°F and 52°F. July highs typically reach about 91°F. Close by are Whitetail Ridge, about 1.3 miles away, and the Red Cloud Loop and Menawa Loop hikes, each within about two miles. Earl Cook Recreation Area is about 3 miles off.
