Upper Tier is a climbing area in Connecticut, about a mile from Mansfield Center. It sits right next to the Lower Tier climbing area, and the Joshua's Trust hike starts just 0.1 mile away, making it easy to pair a climb with a walk. The area has nine routes, eight of which are trad and one is top rope. The grades run from 5.1 to 5.6, with Crystal Dilemma and Joker Are Wild both at 5.5. Lady bug is the top rope option at 5.2. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from the nearby Storrs weather station show July highs around 80°F with lows near 63°F, while January highs average about 35°F. Nearby, the Bird Loop Trail and Holt Kinney Trail are both within a mile. The 50 Footer climbing area is about 2 miles away, and the Hop River offers canoeing roughly 6.6 miles off.
