Lower Tier is a climbing area in Connecticut, about a mile from Mansfield Center. It sits right next to the Upper Tier climbing area, and the Joshua's Trust hike starts just 0.1 mile away, making it easy to pair a climb with a walk. The area has 13 traditional routes, all rated between 5.0 and 5.9 on the YDS scale. Cave Man is the easiest at 5.0, and Cave Corner and Lil' Abner sit around 5.7 and 5.8. Lurch is the hardest, at 5.9-. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from the nearby Storrs weather station show July highs around 80°F with lows near 63°F, while January highs average about 35°F. Other climbing is close by at the 50 Footer and Joshua's Trust Land areas. For time on the water, the Hop River is about 6.6 miles away.
