Perimeter Trail is an easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.87 miles long and starting in West Redding, half a mile from town. It's a short outing with a low climb, rising from about 483 feet to 570 feet and dropping back to 402 feet, so the total elevation gain and loss are not far off. The trail's most noticeable feature is the steep grade at the start, which reaches about 18 percent in the first tenth of a mile. Beyond that, the rest of the route is gentle, and the trip takes roughly half an hour. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury run from highs around 69°F in May to about 74°F in September, with July the warmest at 82°F. The station sits about 113 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. Baldy Ridge Trail starts just 0.2 miles away, and Saul's Loop and Jamice's Loop are each about 0.6 miles off. Climbers can head to Slugs & Crickets Block, about 1.9 miles away.
