Old Field Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about half a mile long and with a total elevation gain of about 100 feet. It is a point-to-point route, so it doesn't loop back to the start. The trail runs between a low point of about 402 feet and a high of about 487 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about a third of the way in, with a grade of about 13 percent. The nearest town is Paynes Corners, about 1.7 miles away. The trail is part of a network of short walks in the area, and it pairs easily with other routes close by. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Mt Carmel show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. The Eric L. Stone Trail is about half a mile away, and the Sargent River Trail and Stony Loam Trail are within a mile. For climbing, Hermit Boulders is about 2.2 miles off.
