Peabody Placer is a cross-country skiing route in the Dillon Ranger District of Colorado's White River National Forest, about 0.2 miles long and rising 44 feet from roughly 9,449 feet to 9,507 feet. The climb is short and gentle, with the steepest stretch at about 0.09 miles in, where the grade reaches 5 percent. The route is rated moderate. Winter is the natural season for skiing here. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Dillon, at a lower elevation, show January highs around 31°F with lows near 1°F, while July highs reach about 75°F. That station sits roughly 440 feet below the route, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. Discovery Ridge Trail and the ZL Trail both start within a quarter mile, and the Swan River and Raspberry Boulders are about 2 miles away.
