Aspen Loop is a short cross-country ski route in the Columbine Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest in Colorado. The trail is only about 0.3 miles long, with a total elevation gain of about 11 feet, and it is rated easy. The route runs between 8,720 and 8,752 feet, so it is a nearly flat loop. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.1 miles in, with a 4% grade. That makes it a good option for skiers looking for a quick outing rather than a long climb. The most comfortable months for a ski visit are typically January and February, when typical averages from a nearby weather station in Silverton run from highs around 34 to 36 degrees Fahrenheit and lows near zero. Summer is much milder, with July highs around 75 degrees. That station sits about 530 feet higher than the loop, so temperatures on the route run a little warmer. Other cross-country ski loops are close by: Bench Loop is about 0.1 miles away and Beginner Loop about 0.2 miles. Climbers can head to Hermosa Park Road Boulders, roughly 0.7 miles off, and paddlers will find Cascade Creek about 3 miles away.
