Second Flatiron is a climbing area on city land within the Bergheim - Wood land unit, about 2 miles from Boulder, Colorado. It sits close to several other climbing spots, including Dark Side Boulders/Area and BBC Boulder, each about a tenth of a mile away, and the boulder at The Mothership. The area offers a mix of trad and boulder climbing. Of 21 routes, 15 are trad, and six are boulders. Trad grades run from 5.0 to 5.11a, with the West Face [2nd Flatiron] at 5.2 and the East Overhang at 5.11a. Boulders fall in the V3-4 to V7 range. Summer is the most comfortable season for climbing. A nearby weather station records typical July highs around 79°F and lows near 50°F, while winter highs sit in the low 40s. That station sits about 1,000 feet below the area, so temperatures at the Flatiron run cooler. Within a short walk are the Bluebell Spur Trail and the Kohler Mesa Trail, both under half a mile away. Paddlers can reach Boulder Creek about 2 miles off, and Winiger Ridge campground lies about 5 miles away.
