Uc is a hard hike in Colorado's Grand Valley Ranger District, part of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. The trail is about 5 miles long, with an elevation gain of 821 feet, and it follows a natural surface. It is an out-and-back route, starting at a low point of about 7,850 feet and reaching a high of about 8,670 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open from June 1 through October 31. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The climb is a steady one, and the route is best suited to riders on horseback or on foot. For a shorter outing, Lower Bench lies about 2 miles away and Coal Creek about 2.3 miles. Long Canyon is roughly 3.5 miles off, and Oak Cabin offers camping about 6.7 miles away.
