Atkinson is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 4 miles in the Grand Valley Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests in western Colorado. The trail rises from a low of about 8,428 feet to a high of about 9,055 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 212 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open to horses. Bikes are not allowed. The hike is most comfortable from June through October. Atkinson Bench lies about half a mile away, and South Bench and Spring Creek are both within about 3 miles.
