Sayre is an easy, out-and-back hike of about 1.6 miles in the Dillon Ranger District of White River National Forest in Colorado, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 154 feet from a low point of 8,842 feet to a high of 9,186 feet, and it is a natural-surface route that allows both horses and bikes. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically July and August, when typical averages from a nearby weather station at Dillon run from a high of 75°F to 73°F with lows in the upper 30s. Winter is cold, with January highs around 31°F and lows near 1°F. The trail starts at the Salt Lick Trailhead and is open year-round. Old Dillon Reservoir and Dillon Dam Road, both mountain biking routes, sit within a third of a mile. Heaton Bay Campground is about 0.7 miles away, and the fishing at Old Dillon Reservoir #87 is about half a mile off.
