Richmond is a hard hike in Colorado's Ouray Ranger District, part of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. The trail is an out-and-back of about 7.2 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,160 feet, taking you from a low point of about 9,900 feet to a high of about 12,640 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced, accessible to horses and not accessible to people with mobility challenges. The Richmond Trailhead is the parking for the route, and the trail is open year-round. Bikes are not allowed. Nearby, Chicago Peak and Hayden Mountain are both hikes within about 2.3 miles. Camp Bird Road offers climbing about 2.4 miles away, and the Million Dollar Highway Free Campsite is about 2.5 miles off.
