Moffat is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 4.4 miles in the Sulphur Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests in Colorado. The trail runs from a low point of about 10,500 feet to a high of about 10,813 feet, with an elevation gain of about 210 feet on the way up. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail's natural surface carries both horses and bikes. For comfortable conditions, aim for late summer into early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 68°F with lows near 43°F, and September highs around 59°F with the fewest wet days of the year. Winters there are cold, with January highs near 29°F. The trail starts at Rogers Pass Trailhead, and the season runs from about June 1 to November 15. Riflesight, a mountain biking route, and the Trestle hike both sit about 0.3 miles away. Midland Group Campground is roughly 3.2 miles off, and the Fraser River is about 5.5 miles away for paddling.
