Mitchell Creek is a hard hike in the Rifle Ranger District of Colorado's White River National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,700 feet to over 10,500 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 2,800 feet, and it is open year round. The route is about 7 miles long. It is not accessible, and it is not a trail for biking. Horses are allowed, which makes it a viable option for riders. The nearest town is Glenwood Springs. The trail sits in a cluster of outdoor destinations, so it pairs well with other stops in the area. Within a few miles are the Steve Bob Trail and Wulfsohn Trail for mountain biking, the Glenwood Springs Area for river fishing, and the Lower Wall and Main Wall climbing areas. Glenwood Canyon Resort, about 4 miles away, offers a place to camp.
