Upper Piney

Upper Piney is a fishing lake in the Eagles Nest Wilderness, part of the Holy Cross Ranger District of Colorado's White River National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site is not reservable. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Dillon, which sits about 1,200 feet lower than the lake, show July highs around 75°F with lows near 38°F. That station's figures run cooler than conditions at the lake, so expect temperatures there to be somewhat lower. Several other spots lie within a few miles. Easter Egg Boulder and Booth Creek Boulders are climbing areas about 2 miles away, and Booth Lake is a hike at a similar distance. Gore Creek Campground, roughly 4 miles off, offers a place to stay.
