Deer Lakes Campground is a Forest Service site in the Gunnison Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests in Colorado, about 13 miles from the town of Gunnison. The campground was reconstructed in 2024 and sits near Deer Lakes, offering fishing access to them. Most visitors come for the fishing, and the high-elevation aspen forest setting makes it a natural base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The site has 13 campsites and vault toilets. A fee is charged for stays. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation show July highs around 72°F with lows near 40°F, while winter highs stay in the mid-30s. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run a little cooler. The Calf Creek Plateau Trail and the Canyon Infierno Trail are both within about 2 miles. Slumgullion Campground and Hidden Valley Campground are each about 3 miles away.
