Wild West is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in California's Barstow Field Office, about 13 miles from Victorville. It sits among several other climbing areas, including Dragon Fang, Border Crossing Area and Atlas Hugged Wall, all within about a third of a mile. The climbing here is all sport, with six routes ranging from 5.9 to 5.11a. The easiest is Gravestone Arete at 5.9, and the hardest is Remington at 5.11a. Boss Chimney and Choss Boss are both around 5.10, and Chasm Crossing is 5.10a. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Victorville weather station show April highs around 73°F and October highs around 79°F, while July and August average in the upper 90s. That station sits about 1,200 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures up high run cooler.
