The West Face is a bouldering area on Bureau of Land Management land within the Eagle Lake Field Office in California. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas, with The Black Hole about a mile away and Pinkland roughly a mile off. The climbing here is all bouldering, with three routes listed: Extracting the molars at V1, Flossing the fang at V2-, and Ain't no fang at V3. The grades are typical for the area, and the routes are close enough together that a single visit can cover more than one. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Stead, Nevada, show May highs around 69°F and October highs around 66°F, while July highs reach about 89°F. That station sits roughly 1,100 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Other climbing areas within a few miles include Cow Skull Boulders and Homestead Canyon. For paddling, Long Valley Creek is about 8 miles away.
