Puppy Dome is a climbing area in Yosemite National Park in California, managed by the National Park Service. It sits among a cluster of boulders and small climbing routes, with Wave Boulder and Mantel Boulder each about 0.1 mile away. The area is close to Tuolumne Meadows Campground, about 0.8 mile off, and the Pacific Crest Trail passes within a mile. The climbing here runs from trad routes to bouldering, with eight routes in total. The grades range from 5.5 to 5.12c, and the hardest is Grenade Launcher, a 5.12c trad route first climbed by John Bachar in the 1980s. Machine World is a 5.11c boulder problem, and Do or Fly is a 5.11c trad route. The bouldering is a natural pairing with the surrounding boulders, and the trad routes offer a longer, more sustained option. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Tuolumne Meadows show July highs around 71°F with lows near 38°F, while winter highs sit in the low 40s. A fee is charged for climbing here.
