North Astro Dome - Northeast Face is a climbing area in Joshua Tree National Park, inside the Joshua Tree Wilderness in California. The National Park Service manages the land, and the dome sits in the center of a small cluster of climbing faces, with the Southwest Face of North Astro Dome and the Northeast Face of South Astro Dome each about 0.1 mile away. The area is a traditional and sport climbing destination. Eleven routes are listed, with ten in the trad style and one in sport. Grades run from 5.7 up to 5.12b/c, with the median around 5.10c. Among the standouts are "Nevermore," a 5.10b sport route, and "Gunslinger," a 5.12b/c trad route. A few of the routes have first ascent credits, such as "In Search of Hush Puppies" at 5.7, which Dave Evans and Margie Floyd climbed. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Yucca Valley show highs around 73°F in April and 80°F in October, while July and August average about 96°F. That station sits well below the dome, so temperatures up high run cooler. The Astrodome Approach Trail and Barker Dam Trail both lie within a mile, and Sheep Pass Group campground is about 3.2 miles away.
