Monks Rock is a climbing area in California's Eldorado National Forest, on the Placerville Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits right alongside other climbing and camping spots, with The Loaf Boulder and Campground Boulders about 0.1 mile away and Lovers Leap Campground at a similar distance. The Loaf Boulder is the closest neighbor, and the area draws climbers and boulderers together in a compact cluster. The climbing here is all bouldering, with 10 routes on the bouldering scale. Their grades run from V0 to V5, and the Bachar Problem is the hardest at V5. Most of the boulders sit in the V0 to V3 range, which makes the area a good choice for climbers working on a variety of grades. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 80°F with lows in the low 40s, and only about two wet days a month in July and August. The station sits at a similar elevation to the climbing area, so these figures should hold for the boulders as well.
