This is a bouldering area in South Yuba River State Park in California, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits right next to the Hoyt Trail and the Merit Boulders, about 0.1 mile away, and the South Yuba River: 49 Crossing climbing area is about 0.2 mile away, so it fits easily into a day spent exploring the park's trail network and climbing spots. The climbing here is all bouldering, with nine routes ranging from V0-1 to V2. The easiest are Sunnyside at V0-1 and Beginner's Luck at V1, and Scrambling is the hardest at V2. Most of the routes are V1, so the area works well for climbers looking for a session on lower-grade boulders. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 68°F and lows near 40°F in April to highs around 78°F and lows near 44°F in October. July and August are the hottest months, with typical highs around 94°F. Close by, the Hoyt Trail and the Independence Trail East offer hiking. Shady Creek and Deer Creek are canoeing options a few miles away, and Hornswoggle campground is about 8 miles off for an overnight stay.
