The Gargoyle is a climbing area in California's Six Rivers National Forest, within the Lower Trinity Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits close to two other climbing spots: Main Wall and So-So Grotto, both about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is sport and trad, with sport routes making up most of the routes. Grades range from 5.7 up to 5.11a, so the boulders are on the higher end of intermediate and into advanced territory. Among the sport routes are Gothic Edifice at 5.10a and Thunder Thighs at 5.11a. The trad route Back Crack is at 5.10d. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 75°F and October highs around 70°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits well below the area, so temperatures here run cooler. For time on foot, Coon Creek Loop and South Fork Trinity are both within 2 miles. Burnt Ranch Campground is about 3 miles away, and Slide Creek Campground is roughly 9 miles off.
