Flake Boulder is a bouldering area on city land in California, sitting among a cluster of climbing spots. The Central Joyless Area and the Humpty Dumpty Area both lie about 0.1 mile away, so this is a natural stop for anyone exploring that corner of the climbing network. The area is a boulderer's playground, with seven routes all rated on the V scale. The easiest are The Arete at V0- and The Flake Crack at V0, while East Arete is the hardest at V5. Problem A and Problem B sit in the middle, at V3+ and V4. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Bishop show April highs around 74°F and October highs around 78°F, while July averages climb to about 100°F. For a change of pace, the Happy Boulders Trail is about 0.9 mile away, and Pleasant Valley Pit Campground is about 4.5 miles off. South Fork Bishop Creek, a paddling spot, is about 3.7 miles away.
