Boney Bluff is a sport climbing area in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California, managed by the National Park Service. It sits within the recreation area's network of routes, with the Backbone Trail about half a mile away and the Tri Peaks Trail arms within a mile. The climbing here is all sport, with 13 routes spread across a range of grades from 5.11b to 5.13d. The hardest of them is Atmosphere, a 5.13d first climbed by Louie Anderson in 1997, and Outrage and Sureshot are both 5.13a. Most of the routes were also first ascents by Anderson in the mid to late 1990s. Winter and early spring are the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 67°F in December to about 75°F in April, while summer highs there reach the low 90s. That station sits well below the bluff, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. There is no fee to climb here.
