Tillotson is a hard hike in the Georgetown Ranger District of Eldorado National Forest in California, about 9 miles from the district's boundaries. The trail is an out-and-back that gains about 2,550 feet, starting from a low point of 1,644 feet and reaching a high of 3,763 feet. The most comfortable months for the climb are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Georgetown, at a similar elevation, run from highs around 72°F in May to about 74°F in October, while July and August average highs near 91°F. Nevada Point Trail and Buckeye Flat both lie within about 2 miles. Ponderosa Cove Campground and Dru Barner Campground are a little over 5 miles away.
