Sugar Pine Trail is a 4.6-mile out-and-back hike in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated moderate, with an elevation gain of 86 feet from a low point of about 3,620 feet to a high of about 3,683 feet. The route is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so it works for hikers and riders alike. The climb is gentle, with only about 86 feet of gain over the full length. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Georgetown put May highs around 72°F and October highs around 74°F, while July and August average about 91°F. Shirttail Creek and Giant Gap campgrounds sit within a third of a mile, and the Rocky Ridge and Green Valley hikes are each about 0.7 miles away.
