Osborn Crest is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.9 miles in the Calaveras Ranger District of Stanislaus National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 242 feet from a low point near 7,539 feet to a high of about 7,804 feet, and its natural surface makes it a straightforward walk on foot or on horseback. Bikes are also allowed. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 75°F with lows near 49°F, and the trail sits a few hundred feet higher than that station, so temperatures on the crest may run a little cooler. The hike starts right beside Silvertip Campground, and the Silvertip Cg to Lake Alpine route and North Lake Alpine are both about 0.1 mile away. Lake Alpine Recreation Area, a fishing spot, is roughly 1.5 miles off.
