Mumford Bar is a hard hike in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 10.8 miles, with a one-way climb of roughly 2,721 feet from a low point of about 2,636 feet to a high of about 5,381 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Blue Canyon, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 78°F with lows near 63°F and only about one wet day in the month. Winter is much colder, with January highs around 47°F and lows near 34°F. Bikes are allowed on the trail, and the surface is natural. The American River and Loop 5 hikes both lie about 1.9 miles away. Tunnel Mills II campground is about 5 miles off, and the Yuba Gap climbing area is about 8.6 miles away.
