The General Sherman Tree Accessible Trailhead is a short, easy route in Sequoia National Park, managed by the National Park Service and located about 1.5 miles from the park's main trail network. It is a trailhead and access point for the General Sherman Tree Accessible Trail, which runs from the accessible parking lot to the famous General Sherman Tree, the largest tree in the world by volume of wood in its trunk. The trail is an out-and-back of about 3.1 miles, with an elevation gain of 358 feet. The accessible parking lot is the designated stop for visitors with disability plates or placards. Those without one should park at the Main Sherman Tree Parking Lot and take the shuttle to this trailhead. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation run to typical July highs around 70°F with lows in the mid-40s. Winter is cold and snowy, with typical January highs near 39°F and about eight snow days that month. Nearby, the trail signs titled "What Brings Them Down?" and "Why so big and so old?" sit about 0.1 mile away. Marble Fork Overlook, a climbing area, is about 1.5 miles off. Lodgepole Campground, in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, is about 2.3 miles away.
