Crown Basin is an easy out-and-back hike in California's John Muir Wilderness, within the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest. The trail is about 3.4 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 290 feet, and it runs from a low point of about 9,985 feet to a high of about 10,223 feet. The route is on natural surface and is open to horses. Bikes are not allowed, and the trail is not accessible. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. For a longer outing, Blackcap lies about 3.2 miles away and Bench Valley about 3.5 miles. The Middle Fork Kings River, a paddling route, is about 6.5 miles off, and Tehipite Dome, a climbing area, is about 8.9 miles away.
