Upper Hell Hole Campground is a Forest Service site in Eldorado National Forest in California, about a tenth of a mile from Upper Hole Campground. It is a simple, low-key base for exploring the surrounding forest, with vault toilets as the only amenity and no fees required to use it. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Spaulding run to highs around 82°F in July and August, with lows in the upper 40s. Winter is much colder, with highs in the low 40s and lows near 25°F from December through February. Steamboat is a hike just 0.4 miles away. Hell Hole Campground lies about 3.3 miles off, and Five Lakes Creek and Barker Creek offer canoeing within roughly five miles.
