Hell Hole Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Georgetown Ranger District of Eldorado National Forest in California. It sits in the Eldorado National Forest, about 0.6 miles from Big Meadows Campground and roughly 0.7 miles from the Hellhole hike. The weather station at Lake Spaulding, about 21 miles away, records typical averages that put summer highs in the low 80s, with July and August highs around 82°F and lows near 47 to 48°F. Late spring and early fall are milder, with May highs around 64°F and September highs near 76°F. The Hellhole hike starts within a mile of the campground. Middle Meadows campground and the Middle Meadow hike lie about 3 miles away, and the Loon Lake climbing area is about 7.4 miles off.
