Swanson Campground is a Forest Service campground in the High Sierra Ranger District of Sierra National Forest, about 10 miles from Shaver Lake, California. It sits under a canopy of dense pine trees, and paved and dirt roads lead to the site. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill, and the campground has a vault toilet. A Campground Host is also on site. Fees are charged for stays. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Huntington Lake weather station show July and August highs around 74°F with lows near 49°F and only one or two wet days a month. That station sits about 1,300 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run cooler. Nearby options include Dorabelle Campground, about 2.3 miles away, and Stevenson Creek, a canoeing spot at 2.8 miles. Shaver Lake Bouldering and Ely Mountain, both climbing areas, are within about 4 miles.
