Ripstein Campground is a Forest Service site on the Big Bar Ranger District of Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. It sits within the national forest and is normally available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground has 10 tent-only sites, some of which are walk in only. Most of the tent sites have food lockers to help prevent black bears from becoming habituated to human food. Vault toilets are the only amenity on site, and no fees are required to use the campground. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Weaverville weather station put May highs around 77°F and September highs around 88°F. July and August average highs near 94°F, and winter brings frequent wet days. Canyon Creek and Bear Creek are both hikes about 0.8 miles away. For more time on the water, the East Fork North Fork Trinity River is about 5 miles off, and Mary Smith Campground is roughly 6.8 miles away.
