Poppy campground sits in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. It is a small site with vault toilets as its main amenity, and a fee is charged for a stay. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Blue Canyon show July highs around 78°F with only about one wet day in the month, while winter brings highs in the mid-40s and roughly 12 to 13 wet days a month from December through March. French Meadows campground is less than a mile away, and Lewis and Coyote Group are both within two miles. The Western States Trail passes about 2.3 miles off.
