North Fork Campground is a Forest Service site in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest, about 0.1 mile from the North Fork (CA) listing. It sits in a remote location near a beautiful creek, shaded by cedar, pine and fir trees, and makes a pleasant escape with a swimming hole at the end of the campground. Vault toilets are the only facility listed. A fee is charged for stays. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Spaulding weather station, which sits about 750 feet lower, show July and August highs around 82°F with lows in the upper 40s, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 40s. Onion Valley campground is about 0.6 mile away. Paddlers can reach the North Fork North Fork American River about 1.3 miles off, and the Mears Lake Valley hike is about 2.3 miles away.
