Tunnel Mills Group Campground is a Forest Service campground in the American River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest, about 0.1 mile from Tunnel Mills II. It sits off I-80 in a remote location, beside a beautiful creek. Vault toilets are the only amenity on site, and a fee is charged for stays. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Spaulding weather station show July and August highs around 82°F with lows in the upper 40s, while winter highs sit in the low to mid 40s. Paddlers can reach the East Fork North Fork North Fork American River about 0.7 mile away and the North Fork North Fork American River about 0.9 mile away. Hikers have the Mears Lake Valley hike about 2 miles off, and climbers can find Entrance Rock about 4 miles away.
