Mill Creek Campground sits in a mixed conifer forest with a stand of aspens, about 14 miles from the Summit Ranger Station on Highway 108 in California's Stanislaus National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site has 17 campsites, each with a table and a fire ring. The main road and parking pads are dirt-surfaced, and vault toilets are the only restrooms. Potable water is not available, and a fee is charged for extra vehicle parking. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Calaveras Big Trees show July highs around 81°F with lows near 56°F and only about one wet day in the month. That station sits roughly 1,600 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures at the site run cooler. The 5N01 Snow Trail is about 1.4 miles away, and the Road 5N06 Area and Upper Quarry climbing areas are each about 1.6 miles off. The Middle Fork Stanislaus River, a paddling route, is about 1.8 miles away.
