Fence Creek Campground sits in a mixed conifer forest high above the Clark Fork of the Stanislaus River in California's Stanislaus National Forest, within the Summit Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site has 38 campsites, each with a table and a fire ring. The main road and parking pads are dirt-surfaced, and vault toilets are the only restrooms. Potable water is not available, and a fee is charged for extra vehicle parking. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Calaveras Big Trees show July highs around 81°F with lows near 56°F and only about one wet day in the month. That station sits roughly 900 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run cooler. The 6N06 Snow Trail starts just 0.2 miles away, and Boulder Flat campground is about a mile off. Brightman Flat campground is 1.6 miles away, and the Donnell Vista Parking Lot climbing area is about 3.3 miles away.
