Lumsden Campground sits on a low-elevation pine and oak forested site on the Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River, about a mile from South Fork Campground and two miles from Lumsden Bridge Campground. It is part of the Tuolumne-Lumsden Recreation Area within the Groveland Ranger District of Stanislaus National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The campground is currently closed. Lumsden Road, the access route, is closed to public access due to storm damage. Contact the district office for updates before heading out. Each site has a picnic table, bear box and campfire pit with a grill. A vault toilet is on site. Untreated water is available from the river if it is running, and treating it before drinking is recommended. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Groveland run to highs around 73°F in May and 74°F in October, while July and August average highs near 91°F. That station sits about 1,375 feet higher than the campground, so temperatures here run warmer. South Fork Campground is just 0.3 miles away, and the Tuolumne Canyon hike is about 0.6 miles off.
