The Pit, also known as Le Petit Verdon, is a climbing area in the Flagstaff Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing and biking spots, with The Oven and The Son Tower both about 0.1 mile away and the AZT - Walnut Canyon Alternate mountain biking route at a similar distance. The area has 25 routes, mostly sport climbing with one trad route. Grades run from 5.7 up to 5.12d, with the median around 5.10b/c. Among the named routes are Pit Pig at 5.10, The Twister at 5.10d and Hollow Earth Theory at 5.12d. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Walnut Canyon show May highs around 71°F and October highs around 67°F, while July and August bring the most wet days.
