36th Chamber of Shaolin

36th Chamber of Shaolin is a climbing area in the Douglas Ranger District of Coronado National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots and campgrounds, so it works well as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The climbing here is all bouldering. Five routes are listed, with grades from the V scale ranging from V4-5 to V9. Two of them, Short Arms and Deep Pockets and The Shower Curtain, are both V8, and The Iron Curtain is the hardest at V9. The routes sit within a short walk of one another. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 78°F in April and 80°F in October, with summer highs in the mid-90s and winter lows near 29°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the area, so temperatures at the boulders run a little cooler. The Klettergarten (Gilly Monsters) and East Stronghold Bouldering are both about 0.1 mile away, and Cochise Stronghold campground and the Sky Islands Traverse hike are each about 0.3 mile away.
