Kp is a hard hike of about 17 miles in the Alpine Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a total elevation gain of 358 feet, climbing from a low point of about 6,500 feet to a high of roughly 8,900 feet. The route is a natural-surface trail open to horses but not to bikes. It is not an accessible trail. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically late spring and early fall. At the Alpine, AZ weather station, about 22 miles away, typical averages run to highs near 69°F in May and 72°F in September. Midsummer is wetter, with 13 to 15 days of precipitation in July and August. Kp Cienega Campground sits just 0.2 miles away, and the Salthouse hike is 0.8 miles off. Highline and the Aker Lake Fishing Site are both about 1,000 feet away.
