Hermit #172E is a short, easy hike in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, about 0.6 miles long and roughly 70 feet of elevation gain. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a simple out-and-back that starts and ends at nearly the same point, with the high point at about 4,347 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show April highs around 75°F and October highs around 79°F, while July averages climb to about 97°F. The trail sits close to two mountain biking routes, the Hermit Trail and the Templeton Trail, both about 0.1 mile away. Climbers can head to Bell Rock / Courthouse Butte, about 0.8 mile off, and campers will find Chavez Crossing about 2.2 miles away.
