Sunny Flat is a Forest Service campground in the Douglas Ranger District of Coronado National Forest in Arizona, about 0.6 miles from Stewart campground and roughly 1.2 miles from Portal Bunkhouse and Idlewilde. The land is managed by the Forest Service, and a fee is charged for stays. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Portal show April highs around 73°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 12 and 13 a month. Several other campgrounds and trails sit close by. Stewart is the nearest, and South Fork Trail #243 is about a mile away. Cathedral Rock Trail and Portal Trail are both within about 1.7 miles.
