Herb Martyr Campground is a Forest Service site in Cave Creek Canyon, within the Chiricahua Mountains of the Coronado National Forest's Douglas Ranger District. It sits in the Chiricahua Wilderness and is open year-round. The campground is set up for tents only, and there is no drinking water on site. A waterless vault restroom serves as the only facility. The Herb Martyr Trailhead is inside the campground, giving hikers a base for exploring the surrounding trails. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Portal show April highs around 73°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 12 and 13 a month. Several trails start close by. Ash Spring is about 0.1 mile away, and the Snowshed Basin Trail and Basin Trail #600 are each within half a mile. For another night, Rustler Park campground is about 3.5 miles off.
