Horseshoe Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Cave Creek Ranger District of Tonto National Forest in Arizona, about 0.8 miles from Mesquite Campground. It sits farther up the road from Mesquite and offers more developed sites with picnic tables and fire pits. Campsites 11 and 12 have access to the Verde River, and the surrounding mountains and river make for a scenic setting for families. Most campsites are less shaded than 11 and 12, so bring canopies and coolers for shade. Large mesquite trees provide shade across the site, and bald eagles are frequently seen nearby. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Carefree show March highs around 74°F and October highs around 86°F, while July and August average in the low 100s. Vault toilets are the site's only listed amenity, and a fee is charged. Mesquite Campground is the closest neighbor, and the Davenport and Telegraph Line Trail hikes are both within about 2.4 miles.
