Wade Mountain Trail is a 3.8-mile out-and-back hike in Wade Mountain Preserve in Alabama, a preserve managed by a non-governmental organization. The trail rises from a starting point at about 1,250 feet to a high point of 1,490 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,090 feet over the course of the round trip. The climb is steady, and the steepest stretch comes at about 1.5 miles in, where the grade reaches 17 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Huntsville show October highs around 76°F with lows near 52°F, and April is similar at about 75°F by day and 51°F at night. That station sits well below the preserve, so temperatures on the mountain run cooler. The hike takes about two hours.
