Falling Sink Trail is an easy out-and-back hike in Alabama, about 1.6 miles from the town of Cedar Point. It is a short outing, with the whole route about 1.2 miles long and a total elevation gain of 369 feet from the low point at 699 feet to the high at 1,039 feet. For comfortable weather, aim for spring or fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Owens Cross Roads run from highs around 71°F in April to 74°F in October. That station sits about 450 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. Three other short trails start within a third of a mile: Bethel Creek Loop Trail, Carpenter Trail and Mill Trail. Farther out, Little Paint Creek offers canoeing about 5.6 miles away.
